Mk 2 or Mk 3? Preferences please.
#1
I guess many of you will have sampled the delights of both. And if you`re like me, you get attached to the old girl and are sad to see her go. So when you buy the new one . . . Try not to colour your preference with nostalgia . . . Please give reasons for your choice!

From a van boy:
My reason for buying a MK3 is that you cant buy a new Mk2!
Im on my second one.
Theyre pig-ugly monstrosities.
There are going to be bad things about the MK3 that havent yet surfaced- very few are at MOT age yet.
The tall seat hight is nice to have and the wheels are much more interchangeable with other Citroen/Pug models.
Larger diameter rims and chunky high profile tyres are much better for our local potholed cart tracks
The larger loadspace is a nice to have.
Despite being bigger, the fuel consumption is slightly better.

The MK 2 was nicer to drive and easier on the eye

No choice really, I had my Mk 2 for almost 9 years and was very pleased with it. Decided to get a new model and only Mk 3 now avialable. I am very pleased with it much more comfortable, quieter, economical and easier to drive I think.

Its had a reprieve!
It had been discontinued some time ago and taken down from the website.

They did this with the C15 when the Berlingo was launched.
The van buying public wanted something cheaper so it was relaunched.
Twice.
My '05 was £4500 brand new!

In another thread on this forum I mentioned that my indirect injection Mk 2 Berlingo owned since 2003 with 130K miles on seemed to be irreplaceable.
To summarize my Mk2 is very comfortable, very quiet, very reliable, very slow.
I damaged my neck and spine many years ago while motor-racing.
I have driven my Mk2 2,3,4 hours at a sitting and can get out as fresh as when I get in. I put this down to its nylon-bushed 1960's suspension (ex 1960's Peugeot 4xx I believe), its roll on corners, its smooth free-revving engine.
My wife has had two modern motability cars now with direct injection diesels. These are fabulously economical and fast but rough, noisy, erratic throttle response. There seems to be a paranoia about roll on corners nowadays and on anything short of a billiard table surface I get neck ache in them.(Remove the anti-roll bars if possible though that might have insurance implications?)
I have thought about a Mk3 Berlingo. It would have to have the petrol engine but the specification with this engine is very limited...
Irreplaceable?

Not sure where you are looking but the petrol Mk3 Berlingo is available in Vtr and Xtr spec, Judging by autotrader anyway.
I was toying with the idea of a petrol Xtr on a 09 plate but have bagged a 09 Xtr diesel.

Well just had a quick look and not one xtr spec petrol!!

Not even here either,

A rep in the Citroen shop said the petrol engine only comes in the VT version.
The very faintly printed brochure seems to confirm.
I have just been into http://www.car-configurator.citroen.co.uk/ and they confirm.
If you select the petrol engine you can have any version you like as long as it's the VT.

HI we recently got a MK 3, after buying new our first Berlingo in 2002.
There are some things I do not like on the new car - storage in the front for one, the place where the old, bigger, storage space on passenger side was, is now airbag, safer naturally but there is really nowhere to store other stuff - water bottle etc. Also the DPF is a pain - I was not told about it when we picked up car and when I asked why was told by Citroen that it was because I ordered the car online!! Really??..I suppose these are not huge points, and I am a fan, the storage space in back is huge and the seats just pop out on this car, do not need to remove bolts..no need to stick black tape over headlights either when going to France etc..apparently the lights do not dip to the right..or so I was told by Citroen..overall I like the new one - not a fan of electric windows, and the safety mode is also a pain - radio goes of after about 5 to 10 minutes, that's it.
