Tailgaters!
#1
Do you find yourself getting tailgated when you're 'Lingoing along? I often do, but if I drive the same route in our VW Passat, more often than not it doesn't happen. Same route, same time of day, same speed limits and traffic pattern, so why do they do it??? I don't bimble along way below the speed limit unless it makes sense to do so, so do some drivers see the Blingo and think 'Doddering old git' ....??

I have no back windows so, if they are right behind me, I can't see them! Big Grin

I often get it on my to and from work as i travel along a national speed limit road which is pretty much straight for 2 miles, its usually some young chav in a corsa or clio that comes racing up behind me then sits on my towbar.
Sometimes i get the urge to drop it a cog and put the foot down then see them disappear in the mirror :-)

probably, to be fair most of the Blingo's I see are driven by "doddering old gits".

I don't know why people tailgate, often they will have ample opportunity to overtake but don't take it, instead sitting up my bumper and urging me to go faster:S

Had a BMW 3 series (E30) few years ago and got the same in that, and people cutting you up, and pulling out on you, and generally thinking you were a cock!
So I sold it. For that reason. Was a lovely car. But. Everybody then hated BMW drivers. Now they all drive Audi's. They have the d**khead reputation. What is it about German cars and their drivers?

Subtle hint by way of a stab on the middle pedal usuaully does the trick.
My fixed towbar looks very scary when theyre heading towards it with their ABS pulsing as fast as their heart.
I have some other little tricks in the repetoire if they dont get the message straight away.
It is on my to do list.

I find that simultaneous application of the handbrake and a firm prod on the accelerator works a trick.

Finding themselves behind something that is impersonating a WW2 destroyer "making smoke" means they soon back off

Middle pedal prod is my usual answer, however if they are being particularly stupid and not taking the hint I will slow down with the gear box so i'm doing at least 20 under the limit and drive tight to the white lines so they can't see to overtake.

Had one a few eeeks back, coming home in a 30 zone past a police station that is a regular spot for camera vans, a muppet decided to overtake me. He must have been too busy looking at my hand signal to notice said camera van and missed the fully marked traffic officers car fully light up. How he missed the headon I dont know but he was quickly stopped afterwards. Our local bobby has since informed me the muppet is,looking at 6 points for dangerous driving (god bless video evidence) and 3 point fixed penalty from the camera van all to go with his existing 9 points. I truely hope he loses his job because of it.

Gosh -we are some nasty vindictive little monkeys arent weWink.
I have a double-barelled move for the arrogant ones who then try to bluster past-but thats not for these pages.
Other than driving HGV I find vans are the only vehicle that genearally gets a modicum of respect.
Being on a motorbike is the worst -they are hell bent on overtaking you at any cost.
It is on my to do list.
