Replacing Rear Bumper
#1
Last Saturday I was unfortunately involved in a multi-car accident. Thankfully nobody was injured.

Travelling at about 60mph, traffic suddenly slowed up ahead and came to a standstill. I managed to stop, as did the car behind me, and the car behind that one. But the next car didn't, and in what seemed like slow motion, we heard the thump, thump, and then thump and jolt as the car behind was shoved into us.

It looks like just the bumper, and whatever hard plastic is inside the outer section, are cracked. The rest of the bodywork seems okay. Very lucky, as the other 3 cars involved will be insurance write-offs.

Anyway, before I get my insurance company on the case, I'm wondering if it's a simple enough job to remove and replace the bumper.
Has anyone done it before?

Thanks for any info.

Yes its easy to do even without a helper.
It holds itself in place while you attend to the poppers and screws.

But a word to the wise-depending on how hard a whacking it got I would be inclined to get the car looked at for alignment.
I cant remember if my MK 2 had replaceable crumple mounts or zones (my current MK3 has) - if so they need checking or replacing if possible.
Your new bumper will be difficult to fit if thy have been 'deployed'
Your local accident repair shop would be the ideal and many will provide free estimates .
Good luck - hopefully everything will work out
Let us know how you get on
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Easy enough job, just faffy! the hardest bit I found was getting the inner arch liners to pop in place properly again!
