Advice on my first 6 month service
#1
Bought my daughter a Berlingo multispace 5dr 1.9d 2000 reg 6 months ago and have been told that not only do I have parental responsabilty for her but of the above vehicle as well. So I am going to tackle the 6 month service myself. I have a working knowledge of cars but it would be great if anyone can help with any pitfalls or tips that might help me. I am thinking mostly about removal of oil filter(don't even know where it is yet) any special tools needed?
Is the air filter removal straight forward?
Is the engine for the above a DW8 WJY electronic fuel injection? (need to know for air filter.)
Is fully synthetic engine oil 5w/40 ok to use?

If I can't pull this off people my family cred will go right down the toilet.Confusedcratch:

Hi Jim,
Recommend you get the Haynes manual no.4281 wich covers your model and will tell you everything.
Oil filter is underneath the engine at side of sump.
The air filter is also accesed from underneath
Handbook should give oil spec.

Hello Jim,

In answer to your questions, here we go ( all according to HBoL, so usual E&OE !!):-

5w40 synthetic is O.K.
Air filter should be easy, having said that, if you have a WJY engine you will access the air filter from beneath.

Engine codes are as follows:-

1.9 with mechanical pump - WJZ (DW8)
1.9 with electronic pump control - WJY (DW8B)

If you need anything else - just ask.

Thats odd on our WjY engined Romahome I do the air filter from the top.

If the vehicle is new to you I would also change the fuel filter. What is the mileage and when was the cambelt changed. Have a good look at the alternator drive bellt to check that it is not fraying.

Hi Griff,
Job done air filter was underneath when I crawled under the car all became clear. there are two different air filters for this engine short length round one for mechanical fuel injection and long round one for electronic fuel injection(DW8B WJY). Thanks to the forum I got the right one for the job. Thanks for taking time to help.

Hi Coco,
Job done reputation still intact if not somewhat enhanced. Engine was WJY, got correct air filter fitted from underneath as you said.Bit of a dog getting old oil filter off must have been a giant that put it on, had to get the chain removal tool and nearly ruptured my self getting it off(Getting to old for that crap). Put new filter on hand tight perfect seal.
Thanks for taking time to help.
