Hi, having trouble with my 03 berlingo van so thought id see if anyone on here could help.
I foolishly ran my van out of fuel last night, well I assume its out of fuel because Its well below red and it cut out so Im pretty sure it is.
Ive put 5 litres in, Ive tried bleeding it and still no joy, ive been towed and attempted to bump it but its not even firing? any sort of advice/help would be great. Thanks, Lee

Hi Lee,
I asume it's a diesel (Mines petrol but I have a diesel LandRover) Does it need bleeding? Check the manual.

Well I was bleeding it at half 11 last night with my mother giving me a hand and It did go for 10 seconds, then I noticed fuel squirting out one of the injectors so turned it off to nip the nut back up, done that and it wouldnt go again then. So i just gave up last night and had a crack at it this morning, but nothing!!!!!!!!

I can only give a wild guess that the fuel system is drawing air, did you notice any irregular running before it ran out of fuel? Try putting quite a bit more fuel in.
Hope you get back on the road pronto.

They do take a lot of bleeding , It suggests to me that when the injector pipe was open it was letting the air in the system move to where it could get out, Open all the injector pipes and turn it over a few times . If you can see the fuel come out , keep turning the engine until it stops (air coming out ) then fuel comes again . Tighen up pipes and try again . Its messy but the air has to be removed
It will just be air in the system, if anything more serious then it would not have started. I'm assuming that you've bled it all up to the fuel pump.

So if i crack all the injectors loose, i can go turn it over a few times, stop, and tighten them back up? or does the engine need to swinging over while there be tightened back up?

Does nt really matter how its done as long as the air is pumped out. Try turning over a few times then tighten up two , turn over again and if it shows signs of starting the tighen up the other two. It does'nt need to be turning when tightening them up. Once you have fuel at one or two pipes it will start but until the other pipes are air free it will run rough then the act of running will pump out all the air itself.

I presume its a 1.9 D, front left of the engine, when standing at the front looking under the bonnet are 2 fuel pipes, smaller dia one is the return, disconnect it,and the side coming out of the pump shove it in a small container/bottle, them pump the primer on the fuel filter till no air is seen in bottle.
Reconnect pipe and pump the primer a couple of times untill it goes hard and the van should start after a couple of cranks.
