A really good service!
#1
OK so usual story, the car wouldnt start, needed it asap for work. put it into the garage and 3 out of 4 glow plugs burnt out :-( got the lot replace and the mechanic bent me over!

I want to give it a really good service and im not afraid of getting my hands dirty.
History is a little sketchy, all i know is the timing belt done less than 10k ago.

So heres what im thinking.

-Flush radiator
-new fuel and oil filters
-new air filter and doing an intake mod at the same time(basically want to get rid of the stupid air box and put a free flowing conical filter on)
-Glow plugs (just done)
-Injectors?? (what do you think, worth the expense??)
-new fluids (power steering, brakes, coolant, wipers, engine and gearbox oil)
-new wipers
-check/renew tyres
-check bulbs
-adjust peddles and hand break
-Break pad and disks if needed
-blank or get rid of the egr valve
-give the intake manifold a good clean
-decat
-rocker cover gasket (as its leaking)

whilst i have the thing in bits is there anything else i should check renew or modify?

Haha yes money is the first thing i will have to check on.

just thinking a good service now could give me a few trouble free years of motoring.

If the engine runs well, leave the injectors, "if it aint broke, don't fix it" is a good maxim.
Give it a dose of fuel system cleaner instead & only use decent fuel.

I've not read anything about the OE air filter on Berlingo, but is it unduly restrictive or something? Would be interested to know what improvements you notice please Martin. How about intake roar? I did a similar mod many years ago on my Spitfire (Triumph, not Supermarine just in case you were wondering  ).

you might see it on Dragons Den soon !!!! Lol.

Yep thats the kind of thing i want to do with mine. where did you get the piping or was it salvaged? dont think i can reuse my piping as its got lots of preformed bends in it. looks like i'll be hitting the bay up for some.
what did you do about your mass air flow sensor? iv just unplugged mine and no change in engine note even took it for a quick spin with no difference. does that mean i can do without it or its dead and needs replacing??

Basically....
Removed all pipework and air filter box upto MAS.
Got steel tube roughly size of new filter and welded this to a plate that fits on MAS pipe and uses original bolts to fix.
Then made a small bracket that fixes to the crank cover as per K & Ns induction kit.
It's still a 'work in progress' as I will make a mark 2 version that's a bit neater.
Just needed to see it works. And it does.
As for induction noise? Oh yes...
Sounds like a cross between a petrol induction kit and a dump valve.
Probably not as loud, but sounds ok.

Oh, and as for performance increases...?
Difficult to tell.
Certainly not any worse, and, more importantly, no decrease in MPG. :woop:
