Glow Plugs Relay Issue

Hi all, me again!

I now have a different problem with the glow plugs / glow plug relay. As prior my last post with starting problems the plugs were replaced before discovering the dealers hadn't realised the immobiliser had gone wrong. I have now by past the immobiliser and it has been running fine. Over the last couple of days first thing in the morning the glow plug light has come on and gone straight out again. The relay makes the click as it should do but wont stay open to heat the plugs. Once tapping it with a screw driver it started but that has been about it.

I have been down the breakers and brought a hand full of relays all of which have the same numbers on the top were the wiring diagram is and the PBT number is the same but the four digit number stamped on the same side as the PBT number is different.

Does anyone know if that is a problem or there could be any other reason for this to happen?

PBT stands for Polybutylene terephthalate, a plastic! The numbers afterwards are usually related to the amount of glass fibre present in the casing of the relay. As long as these relays are all from your model of berlingo you should have no compatability issues........

same problem as mine, even put my unit on another van and it worked fine but on mine the light on the dash and then noise instantly makes glow plugs go off?

Am I missing something here...?
Thought the glow plugs didn't come on until the coolant temperature is below zero degrees celcius?
My dash light never comes on unless it's the depths of winter, and then only for a second or two. cratch:

Hi all, I am having a similar problem with my Berlingo 2.0 2001 HDI. The glow plug relay refuses to come on, the dashboard light for the glow plug never comes on if I open the relay and close the contacts the glow plugs work fine. I have checked the power to the relay ignition and permanent 12volts they are fine. The stop light on the dash is permanently on no idea of why. The ECT sensor reads 5000ohms around 80degrees F which I think is correct. Previous to this the head had warped been skimmed and put back. The will not start unless you put a bit of easy start in the intake then it fires up but when you shut it down even when warmed up still no start. I am having a mate come round today to scan the codes any ideas please?

Glow plugs on the 2.0 hdi don't come on unless is zero degrees.

Have a look at your brake fluid level as to why your stop light is on, keep it topped up to the max.

Hi thanks for the reply. I filled up the brake fluid and its made no difference. My mate came round and the codes below are what was found, ok some of them are accountable due to the work done on the car.
P1210 Fuel pressure regulator
P1180 Fuel Flow
P0344 Cylinder 1 Reference sensor
P0562 Battery Voltage
P1601 Power supply relay circuit
P0222 Pedal one circuit
P0227 Pedal two circuit
P1169 Voltage converter circuit
P0341 Cylinder 1 reference
P1164 Fuel pressure
What we did was to write these down and clear the faults the car still would not start so my mate then checked with a snap on solus forced the actuation of the parts i.e. fan motor low and high (low fan relay comes on the fan did not start but the high fan did so suspect fan kaput)
Next EGR 1-2 both OK
Glow plug relay - OK
Fuel pump pressure valve -ok
Replaced the camshaft sensor - new
Fuel pressure when it runs starting on easy start is 275bar (around)

With the faults cleared the recurring code that has us stumped is P0344 cylinder 1 reference and P0341 Cylinder 1 reference my question now is if I installed the injectors in different positions than they came out would this make a difference? remembering that all the injectors have two wires, also does this vehicle have a fuel lift pump when I have the fuel bulb hand pump?
By the way the glow plug relay does not operate and the light on the dash for glowplug does not light.

I am confused..........
