Thought I should post a picture of this - really great piece of kit that turns a Berlingo into a useful mini camper. After seeing some of the other camping set ups on here thought you'd like to see...

One unfortunate side effect is that it turns your family all blurry. Other than that, it's great.

(Reading this back it sounds like an advert - it isn't - I have nothing to do with them, other than I just bought this one, and I'm quite excited about it!)

I looked on their website and they are about £1500 Undecided

That's with blinds and all the bits and bobs. The cooker alone retails at £200. But - ultimately you're right, however the quality of the materials design and workmanship stand out when you see one in the flesh.

In the context of how much furniture, cushions etc cost on full size campers it doesn't seem so bad.

I could have knocked up something with cheap ply etc (and you could probably do it better than me) but once I'd factored in the materials, hassle and my time it seemed worth buying.

I totally agree with you the quality and workmanship does look second to none, i recently watched a youtube video of it and it really impressed me and now i want to have a go at making my own. As i have always been camping and have owned several caravans i have loads of camping gear in the shed like cookers and electrical lighting etc so it wouldnt cost me too much.

the only thing i would struggle with is making some kind of blinds/curtains as i not very good with a sewing machine lol, Do you have one of them tents that go over the tailgate they seem to look ok and add a bit of extra space.

The problem with this kit is that it's useless in the desire model which has far less head room due to the modutop and rear drop down cupboard, which makes the seating bit totally unworkable unless you are under 4 ft tall.

Not yet, but I will sort myself with some variety of awning - it needs something over the back, not least so the kids have somewhere to sleep.

You're right - I avoided the Modutop models for exactly that reason. But to be honest the seating bit is the least useful aspect as room is still limited compared to a proper camper. I bought it for the bed and built in storage - the seating is a bonus.

The idea is that we'll camp with a bigger awning, but after the kids are in bed we can retreat in here with a bottle of wine and a fan heater if necessary - plenty of lounging space for two, and you can prop the back of the bed up and watch a DVD or something...

Looks great, and I'm sure that you will certainly enjoy it.

Yeah, they look good for an overnight stay.

As I have the desire model, I was in the process of building just a bed, albeit a single one, so I can keep the split single car seat in position.

I started building something a year ago and never finished it. I need to crack on and do it so I can stay out during fishing trips Smile

We are fair weather campers and use a Combi Camp trailer tent but that looks like a good day van solution. There was a home made version on here a while ago which would have been good in plan form if the builder made a pdf of it.
So where does this bit go then ?
