Hi all, I've owned mine from new, 2.0 Hdi 2003 and it's always judderd, I remember taking it back after a month or so and the mechanic took me for a test drive all he said was change down to 3rd gear. I don't think it's a fault as such.

It has to be very hard on engine mounts

mine has the same judder at 1700/1800 rpm,I just replaced my egr valve today and it was like driving a new vehicle on way home, ps mine did not show any fault codes just the judder.

My 2003 2.0 HDi judders at about 1100rpm. Just the point to be annoying, means constant gearchanges in 30 or 40mph zones. I too wondered whether it was a fault or design - what we need are original torque and power graphs for the 2.0HDi. Anyone?

Did you change the EGR valve for any other reason? How bad a job was it to change?
Cheers

As far as I know the hdi has long gearboxes to aid fuel efficiency , I have found it to be best to go back to when I was taught to drive I.e. 20 mph in 2nd 30mph in 3rd 40 mph in 4 th etc
If I let the revs drop below around 1700 in too high a gear for my speed , she does not like it one jot and will kidder.

Hi Struan, are you saying that the new EGR valve has cured the juddering? I have wondered whether the EGR was causing it by perhaps 'bouncing' open/closed and causing other parameters such as fuelling to change, setting in place a chain reaction of fuel on/fuel off in rapid succession?

The third piston deactivation solenoid is what your all experiencing as juddering, it's normal and shouldn't bother you if a vehicle is driven as peugeot intended, fuel economy is at it's peak at peak torque with a diesel and so it's designed to be driven around 1900-2k rpm (around peak torque) for fuel economy compromised with torque
The third piston deactivation solenoid basically reduces the load of the pump on the engine when the fuel rail requires lower pressures to allow better fuel economy, what you can probably feel is the solenoid kicking in and out as fuel pressure exceeds and drops below the threshold for the solenoid a activation, it's best described as a judder as it drops in and out... Hope this helps and don't labour your engines quite as much.... If anyone drives a car or van equipped with a dual mass flywheel then definately don't labour the engine, its a DMF killer, taxi drivers eat em for breakkie while trying to save pence worth of fuel to spend 600-1000 quid on flywheel and clutch, the longest lasting dmfs are those who use the engines powerband to its fullest and aren't lazy changing gear

Hi dumdum, can you explain why all the Bosch managed HDis I've owned/driven haven't had this issue? My Siemens managed Berlingo and current 307 both do this. It is so irritating. I don't labour the engine, just for example merely maintaining speed at 50 in 5th gear on the flat or in very gentle acceleration on a gentle downhill slope.
The Bosch cars just don't do this... :brickwall:
