I am looking for a mk 2 with the tinted roof panels (what is that called) but cant make up my mind which engine, 1.9d seems slower than 2.0hdi and 1.6 hdi seems to be problematic, any suggestions gratefully recieved

Dont discount the 1.6HDi- its a highly efficient motor.
Probably not one for the chip-fat brigade and the turbo system is more sensitive to poor maintenance, but its no less reliable when properly cared for.
Check the service history and if you find one thats had its services by the calendar rather than by the mileage (or even better-extra oil changes)then youre onto a winner.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Like Evdama says the 1.6hdi is a good engine just check the service history, the 1.9 is slow but will go for years and another thing to look for the car tax rates vary quite a bit between them as the old 1.9 derv and the petrol models can cost a fortune to tax compared to modern hdi engines. Have a look on the vosa or dlva websites to check out tax rates. I think there is stuff on the forum about water leaks coming through the glass roof panels so have a search and check it out. They are all good motors just check out service history and the owner good luck.
Are we there yet?????

Hi & welcome. The glass panelled roof is a modutop with the roof lockers & is the Desire model as opposed to the Forte with a normal roof.
I change the oil twice a year on my 1.6 HDi.Oil is cheaper than a turbo!
Road tax is £120 per year.I think the 1.9 is £180.
