knocking noise
#1
Hello Again all, So finally had my van, engine instaled from my 2000 berlingo to my 54 berlingo. problem now is theres a loud tapping noise coming from the engine(Sounds like a transit van) it didnt sound like this in the old van. the guy who changed the engine also changed the timing belt but said he used the locking pins when chaning it so the timing is correct. havent had a chance to check that for myself but would that be possible? There's no loss of power, but takes ages to start.

Also another problem is all the clocks (Speedo, fuel gauge etc) work for the first 30 seconds then all go off including the illumination lights. once you turn the ignition off and back on again they spring back into life for another 30'ish seconds. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Sounds like it isn't timed up right to me.

Timing sounds iffy to me. I don't know what type of pump you have but my wifes ford fester diesel did the cambelt. Subsequently timed it up with locking pins etc and it ran like a bag of spanners. Bit of head scratching and discovered the pump gear had rotated slightly on the taper of the pump shaft. The shaft wasn't keyed and relied on the taper to keep everything sweet. Just a thought!
