Traier/Towbar wiring problem
#1
Hi
Have a XTR Multispace 1.6 HDi
Purchased it last July. It came fitted with a Bosal Towbar
with twin Sockets one of those where you remove the Swan neck bar with a Key. I've never used the Towbar it was still wrapped in Plastic in a Bag when I bought the Car from a Peugeot dealership.
So the other day decided to Purchase a Daxara 127 tralier
built it up yesterday and this evening thought I would hook it up and check out the lighting board.
Their is my problem I have no lights working on the board.
I've checked what connections I can but to no avail
everything seems to be in the right place but nothing happening
I'm assuming the towbar was fitted by Citroen as they were the original owners in the Log Book. I will go to the dealers tomorrow but thought I might get some info on the Forum first
Thanks in advance

If you google '12n socket wiring' to get a wiring diagram & you have a volt meter you can check car socket to see if appropriate pins are live, if all good then you know problem is trailer plug.

If you have no lights at all it may be as simple as a disconnected earth lead.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Would that be at the Fuse box end ?
will have a look tomorrow in daylight. Beginning to wish I hadn't bought the Trailer now. Convinced myself I need it Smile

Hi
Just an update on the towbar thing
had a crack at finding the problem but I'm not any nearer to a solution
I had a look in the fuse boxes but cant see anything that would relate to the towbar found some fuses on top of the battery just in front of the
Blue Brown & white cables they were coming from a seperate loom with a Red & Brown Cable
Also managed to pry off the Panel in the rear left hand wheel arch.
Found a couple of boxes in their one marked with the Bosch name wondering if that's for the reversing sensors their were 3 Fuses in their checked them all and they seem to be OK.
Put the multi meter on the towbar plug had a reading off the brake light pin of about 13 volts but nothing else
Phoned Citroen asking if their might be a reset option but they said no
That's as far as I've got right now
regards
Ian

If its of any help I have just purchased 2009 Berlingo (exmobility),and I am about to have tow bar fitted, both Citreon and tow bar company insist that only Citreon dedicated wiring system is fitted. This is due to complexity of modern Berlingo loom system, plus Citreon have included in the loom a dedicated plug in for tow bar electrics.
If due to lower cost anyone has bypassed sytem by fitting with scotch locks it can cause multiple problems, one of which would be no lights at tow board???Might be worth checking.Hope this is of help.

Who is the towbar company and which representative of Citroen have you spoken to?

SimplesTonguelymouth Trailer Centre....Citroen customer support services....plus page 119 chapter 6 accessories of Mk.3 latest hand book.

Hand book:There is fitted to the vehicle dedicataed wiring set up especially for tow bar page 119 ch6.
They state and I quote "IT is imperative that towbar is fitted using the electrical equuipment installed at the rear of the vehicle."end quote
Not using above method Citroen state very clearly ,and I quote "Fitting such a equipment(tow bar)could result in the failure of your vehicles electronic system."end quote.

This only applies apparently to new Mk3..as all looms have been electronically integrated.

Cheap short cuts can sometimes be shortcuts to expense?U pays your money and takes your chances!

But to be serious for one moment ,Plymouth trailer centre are highly thought of and have a waiting list, plus Citroen support were very clear.Handbook states it clearly..all 3 state it has to be Citroen dedicated equipment.:brickwall:
