Hi
Just got my berlingo multispace 53 plate mk2 not so long ago.
My exhaust started making a noise like a tank. the exhaust had came away from the rear silencer right on the clamp that connects it to the center pipe. Is this a common place for it to corrode?
the whole exhaust looks to be held on by only
1: engine outlet
2: bracket after center box
3: rubber hanger type things on the rear silencer
Are there any mods i can do that would make it a bit more stronger? Have replaced the rear silencer now...

I have had two M49's (1.9D & 2.0Hdi) and found that at around 77,000 the exhaust breaks @ the cat then very shortly cracks around the flare of the joint to the rear box also if the box has a strap that attaches the the hanger to the box they go around the strap to box interface (aftermarket "bosal" have the hanger welded to the box so this may stop that problem) then around 85-87000 front wheel bearings go, but thats another thread.

Carefully stick your hand over the end of the tailpipe when the engine is running from cold, you will hear and enhanced blowing if it is leaking. Curiously, my 2.0HDI sounds like it is blowing at times but been on ramps at local exhaust fitters and no fault found. I do have an intermittant fault with the EGR sticking and think this might be the cause..

As long as the exhaust is not blowing and the EGR is not throwing up any fault codes or causing the EML (Engine Management Light) to come on then I wouldn't worry about it too much...

There are 3 tail pipes that fit the blingo diesel, i have been sent them all through the post, , and the hanging "Centrepoint " is different on all of them, also, the length of pipe from the flange to the front of the silencer is a different length on 2 of them, if you are sent the wrong one, and you fit it, it stresses the whole system and will cause early failure. the system should fit without pulling or undue force, and each component should hang vertically nicely
sorry for re activating this thread, its a mistake and I cant seem to delete it.

Exhaust shouldn't corrode; it's stainless.
Or at least mine (later model) is?
