Has the tyre wear problem been resolved?

Hi,

I bought a Mark 2 Berlingo Multispace new in 2005. It's now done 104,000 reliable miles.

I plan to purchase the latest version soon but I am concerned about stories concerning rear wheel tyre wear. What is the latest on this issue? Can the problem be rectified? Is it still a feature of 2012 registered versions?

Any advice gratefully received!

It might be a tracking fault with some cars but mine has been no problem. I got 33k miles using all 5 of the original Michelin Primacys by rotating spare across the back every 3 months & then halfway through tyre life swapping fronts to back & continuing spare rotation, changed with 3mm tread left. I replaced them with 5 Avons bought on price at £93 incl fitting from online supplier Tyreshopper each compared with Primacys at about £140. 7k on the Avons so far, wearing well & no discernible difference from the Primacys.

Possibly a bit early to tell on 2012 models, but I know for fact the suspension at both ends has been changed from the early MK3's along with quite a few other things.
As with most stories a few isolated incidents soon become apocalypticly exaggerated.
My 2010 van dd not mis-wear its tyres in any case.
I cant tell you about my current one as I frequently swap from one set of tyres to another.
Just reading Opensuaces tuppenceworth,I can add that the Michelin EnergySavers last me around 40k on the front and without ever having the chance to find out, Id say a least double that on the back.
Despite the inward slant of the rear hubs they wore perfectly flat.

My 2010 mk3 has never had rear tyre wear problems, but I do about november fit mud and snow winter tyres and then back to my alloys and summer tyres every year in March. Only got 2 sets of tyres a from new and must have 4-5 mm on both. Done 32k now, I did have front suspension problem which was a bloody nuisence. and by getting many forum members together attacking Citroen over problem, and I invited citroen HQ to read our posts, my suspension units were sorted after about 3rd attempt, Havent had problem since. [fingers crossed]. So on mk3`s check before buying that suspension has been sorted.

2011 mk3 xtr on 21,000 miles and the original rear Michelins are just about worn out. I figured that was okay and the wear is nice and even.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have been used to getting well over 30K on my Mark 2 Berlingo rears. 21K sounds rather poor to me.

Any other views on this topic?

I agree,my original rears are on the front @ 31,000m with 4mm left.
I changed the original fronts prior to a trip to Germany,as they 4mm left & the German limit is 2mm.That was at 24,000m

Hello Dave.
It seems to me that the problem is still here.
I bought a new Berlingo in April '12 and was made aware of the uneven rear tyre wear at the 1st service around 13,000 miles. It was suggested this was because I had been driving the vehicle unladen and that Berlingos are van based and designed to be laden. They don't want to know basically, but rear tyres are scrubbed (especially near side) at 15,000 miles. I would never again buy a Citroen. The main dealer service centre suggested sticking a set of budget tyres on and getting rid of it. It's only 10 months old ! Go for the Renault Kangoo or the Fiat Doblo. At least either of these will drive in a straight line. Avoid the Berlingo!! (and it's Peugeot Partner stablemate)
I would be interested in hearing if anyone manages to get this problem sorted.

I would suggest you email Citroen from the 'contact us' link on Citroen UK website, I have always found them suprisingly helpful in resolving these sort of issues.
