Hi all,
how do I tighten the positive, quick release connector? When done up, I can rotate connector on battery terminal. That can't be good. Bingo starts OK, but sometimes take a few more turns than I would like. I can't see a bolt to tighten in the clamp. It's possible that this, fairly new, battery has slightly smaller terminal than original, but you should be able to adjust it.

It needs sorting pretty quickly - On lorries where two batteries are linked the cranking current can zap a terminal if the the clamp is loose.
It sounds like the other size connector has been used on your positive wire,or someones gone mad with a terminal restoring die and reduced the size.
For the moment I would pack out part of the clamp with some metallic material until its tight.
You can get replacements cheaply http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=qu...9084363586 or similar.
Ive had a set of the red/blue ones on my tractor for a few years and they work superbly despite the low price
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Nip into Hellfrauds and get a complete new terminated lead. Loose battery terminal connectors are very bad news!
If this goes pear-shaped you could end up buying a new battery and /or causing other expensive damage.
Keep the original for another new battery or for posterity!

Is the connector pushed all the way down ? I fitted a new battery and the connector was loose at first because it was near the top of the terminal and it tapered at the top. I flipped the lever up, pushed down on the connector and seated it firmly lower down and it's been sound since.
So where does this bit go then ?

To be honest I fitted the new battery, must be a year ago. No real problems starts OK etc. Only recently chasing an airbag light problem, hence disconnecting/reconnecting batt I noticed it. Can't believe the clamp has no adjustment in it. I had a look, but without taking the grease off it I couldn't see any bolt/nut to adjust.

Of crappy poor construction. Bought two new lugs for mine + & -ve hoping to just bolt leads on but not quite that easy. Some leads attached to 8mm stud on lug but the main lead from battery to starter has original Q/R lug crimped to it so can't just unscrew and replace.
Modymytop, yes I was always taught to remove -ve lead first for safety reasons, definately +ve lead with quick release on the 'lingo, typical arse uppards electrics...

Only thing I could think is that with quick release, you won't be using spanner to undo terminal, and hence can't short +ve to chassis.
