Whistling noise ?
#1
The old timer has developed a peculiar whistling/whining noise from under the bonnet this evening , which ceases completely if the clutch pedal is depressed . Any ideas ladies or gentlemen , the floor is open . . . cheers for any input in advance .

Probably the thrust bearing on the clutch, sounds like a new clutch may be around the corner.

Cheers for a prompt response dude , was only looking on your site a couple of nights ago , didn't think I'd be after your input so soon
I did suspect thrust bearing from limited knowledge but do not understand the implications , ie time to repair/replace or as you have suggested a brand new 2nd hand clutch :woop: gotta keep smilin it's only money :brickwall: bugger !

A new clutch is a lot better than used , probably cost you about £90 for the parts unless you find one on ebay.

I would NEVER fit a S/H clutch,it's not worth the hassle.
Repair properly,repair once.

Don't know what anyone else thinks but 5 hours would be tops... and most of that would be drinking brews and staring vacantly at diagrams... that's me any how! Smile

A Grand! Seems mental... are you going to the main dealer??
What's the quoted hourly rate for labour?
£500 would be a reasonable fee with top quality parts.

Make sure the oil is topped up/ changed in the gear box afterwards and there is no leaking present on the drive shaft seals.
