Ikea Gripe
#1
Thumbs Down
Why the hell is it, that (at least in Oz) there is no quick way through an Ikea shop?

They set it up, so even if you are on limited time, you have to meander through multiple floors and a serpentine layout before reaching the bulk packaged items. Even then, the large trolleys are not close by...

Imagine if petrol stations mucked you around for ten minutes before you were able to reach the bowsers (and then you had to walk another 50 metres each way to get the pump activated) - you wouldn't be happy - yet some bright spark in Ikea seems to think everyone has time to spare and is open to persuasive marketing.

What line of thought in retail and marketing generally, has no respect for the customer who has already done their research and is comfortable with their decision? It's endemic, this attitude - and offensive!

When proper hardware shops and sand yards start trying this rubbish, I look forward to the carnage.

Oh it's just the same here in England, it can be a right pain in the Butt. Recently we've bought quite a bit of furniture from our local Ikea, the trick is to look up the warehouse location on the web site, then go in the exit when somebody is leaving straight into the warehouse, get your trolley, pick your items and then back out through the checkout Easy and no time wasted.

Ikea worktops are very good quality, though. When a small fault appeared in one after it was fitted, Ikea sent a guy out and they paid for all trades and material to remove and replace worktop, remove and refit sink and replace any tiles etc.

But, have to agree about Store layout. Confusedcratch:

I have to say if you are not prepared to follow the tortuous route through the shop ,then dont go in! If your short of time then DEFINATELY dont go in. It is designed to make you buy and just look at how few people DO resist the temptation to buy.
