Clutch Pedal fell off today
#11
Stuartinlancashire......I've just bought my van and this was the first job! the plastic bush that goes through the hole has a thin wall thickness and is probably crap material so I made a nice nylon bush, the hardest part of the job is getting the pivot bolt out as it hits the rod that pushes on the brake pedal so the final bit has to be at a slight angle, getting it back in with a nice fitting bush is even more fun. Working upside down in the footwell is what makes this hard everything else is self explanatory when you look at it.

According to Haynes it seems some early 1.6HDi's where indeed fitted with a cable controlled clutch.

The weather eased off enough for me to tackle the clutch pedal today.
Not such a bad job as previously expected. Kneeling on ground outside with door open was easiest. Needed a small torch to illuminate the area. Taking the pivot pin out was a challenge to get it past the brake rod. The hole in the pedal where the pin attaching to the clutch mechanism was mis-shaped by use and the pin itself was worn so I also bought pin and retaining clip for £2.89 which was cheap compared to a £45 pedal.
I think the failure was due to wear and tear although only 98,000 miles on clock.
Thanks to all for comments/suggestions. :-)

Hi guys,

I am in need of help.  I am replacing my clutch cable but cant get the new one in!
The cable is in place but I cant get it attatched to the pedal!

I installed a new link between the cable and the pedal but i cant get that white pin in between.  Do I need to remove the pedal to get the acces need?  And how can I remove the pedal?  It is the 1 big bolt of the pivot point?

I installed link number 8 on the cable but cant get the pin through 8 and the hole in the pedal. (left hand drive)

Please help, I dont want to tow the car 12 miles to the dealership ...

Hi Michel,
I did this on my Berlingo too, so I can guarantee that you do not need to remove the pedal.  The pin does need a bit of effort to get in in place; if I remember correctly I used plyers to push it through (remember that the old one was worn, and the new one will have a tighter fit - a great improvement, but has the disadvantage of being difficult to install).  Be patient & good luck!

Thnx,

I managed to get it installed at the pedal, removing the pedal gives a lot of extra room. But the problem i am facing now is that the cable is not long enough to get it mounted in the clutch lever at the transmission.

I tried everything and ended up clamping the clutch lever under tension and then mounting the cable but now the clutch is not engaged when the pedal is released. The cable is too short and puts always to much tension at the clutch spring...

Towed it 12 miles with a strap to the dealer, i am curious what I did wrong. Dealer was closed today so I hope they can fix it tomorrow. I cant see what I could have done wrong as it is just 1 unit with no adjusting screw.

Car is fixed. The cable was good, installation was good but the self adjusting part of the cable needs to be reset before installation. Thats all they wanted to explain, I guess the exact way to do that is a peugeot secret because they didnt want to explain it to me...

Where is the time that u had easy manual adjusting cables .... Smile
