I have just had the cambelt (and tensioner/ idler) replaced today as the van came without much service history- Forgot to ask the garage what the recommended service interval is for these engines? Also I seem to recall the cambelt interval on the old 1.9 engines being 70,000 miles but those 'in the know' thought that 36,000 better .... is it recommended changing belts on the hdi's earlier than manufacturers too?

I seem to recall 120.000 miles or 10 years to be the official interval but like you say sooner is better. Personally I have always done them or advised they are done before 100.000. On my relay (same engine) I did it at 80.000 and it was showing signs of wear but looked as if 120.000 was reasonable but you are taking a chance is it worth it?

I have this to deal with this year I recon.
It's a 53 Plate, only got 43K on it as got it with low mileage and I don't do tons of mileage in it.
Hoping its an easyish job if there's such a thing.
