Cigarette lighter won't charge phone?
#1
Hi
I'm guessing there is an easy explanation but the fag lighter in my 2008/58 berlingo van won't charge my phone through my Belkin USB adapter, it works in other cars sockets and in the 12v rear sockets and the lighter also hears up. Anyone know the reason why or if it can be rectified?
Thanks

Ive got a 99p ebay adaptor plug and it works fine.

Either the centre pin is too big to sit in the centre of the socket or the side contacts arent finding the live metal parts of the sides of the socket.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Yes the cigar lighter sockets can be a bit 'funny' I find if I plug my coolbox into front socket its difficult to get a good contanct but it works no problem plugged into rear socket.

My lighter one doesn't power my Tomtom and never has from new. The 12v next to it works fine.

I have to twist the car connector on my sat nav till the light comes on the unit whichever socket or vehicle I use it in. I've looked at it for bad connections and broken wires but no problem, you just have to remember to "jer jer jiggle it Granville." I have an ebay USB adaptor for charging my android phone which works fine in the same sockets.
So where does this bit go then ?

That is exactly my discovery, too. I checked the GPS plug comprehensively; dismantled it and all. Concluded that PSA just use rubbish sockets.

Try the Belkin USB in the 12v socket, not the cigarette lighter socket.
That's how I use mine, TomTom in c/lighter socket and Belkin in 12v to charge phone.
Realise they should both work the same/interchangeable, but try it.
Mine works fine. (Although never tried the other way round? Confusedcratch: )

I've one of those "stubby" dual out USB adaptors, it is better than the GPS plug but still drops out sometimes.
