I've searched the forum for this subject but I cant find anything.

Ive been broken into on the drivers door and the lock was prised out and damaged some of the hole in the door that the lock barrel sits.

I wan going to get a new door and replace the original lock however I have been on the WWW and fount 2 products that might be suitable.

I'm wondering if anyone has used these products or if people can give their opinions please.

The beauty of these products is that any damage is either covered or cut away.

(1) The first product is called Armaplate Sentinel - http://www.armaplate.com/sentinel-van-lock-security

This would cover the damage and I can use the original lock.

These look good as you make the exsisting lock hole bigger thus cutting away any damaged metal and the use a retaing nut behind them which should make them impossible to remove.

Im unsure as to which product to go for.

Opinions please.........

I'd go for the second.

The first is too 'in your face' and almost screams 'here be valuables', and before you know it, the next burglar uses a brick instead of a metal tool.

Alternatively, sand down the paint, weld in a piece of steel, add body filler, sand it, paint over.
No visible lock on that side.
(Only a good idea if you have central locking)

Or, if you really want to deter burglars, cut a piece of sheet steel and rivet over the hole, spatter something on the door that dries a rusty brown, smear some more onto a 5lbs hammer which you leave on the front passenger seat...

Some junkie tried to break into my BX by messing up the lock, but all he managed to do was destroy the metal around the lock, drop the cylinder inside the door and bend the connecting rods...

I sealed up the hole from the inside and mounted a cheap central locking system.

hi i am a locksmith and i fitted loads of armaplate plates on vans and cars they may stand out but i am positive they deter the chance break in as gadgetman said and i also say if they want to get in they will smash window but some thieves dont like a lot of noise but i would still recommend armaplate

Yes the armaplate seems the easiest to fit but is shouting that I keep tools or valuables in the van.

Im going to religiously remove my new kit at night from now so I dont really want to attract a smashed window.

Bloody dilemma that I didnt want.

If you ask me themanufacturer should be hot on the case with lock security!
