Clutch cable snapped twice!

Hello all found the site through google and have found it very useful. I drive mk2 berlingo it's a 2005 with 112 thousand kms. Last week the clutch cable snapped and I had it replaced by a mechanic with a genuine citroen replacement cable. But today having driven about 10 miles the new cable snapped again. Now the mechanic thinks I may need a new clutch and I will also have to get another cable now too. Has this ever happened anyone else? Just looking for advice before I go changing the clutch.

I had a fiat cinquecento a good few years ago and in a space of a few months two clutch cables had snapped. On the second time the AA guy who came to my rescue told me that it can be a sign that the clutch is on the way out, I didn't hold on to car long enough to find out though.

Is it breaking the nipple off at either end ? We had one on a Corsa which had worn at the pedal end and it was twisting the cable as it pulled so it frayed and broke. Is your clutch slipping yet ?
So where does this bit go then ?

if the pedal is stiff the clutch is almost out time to replace.

It is snapping at the engine end. The clutch pedal has always been stiff I haven't noticed it getting any stiffer.

If the shaft that fits into the gearbox to which the cable is attached is sticking, it will wear out the thrust bearing and pressure plate of the clutch assy. Seeing that its' broke two cables the damage is probably already done. While the gearbox is out get the shaft lubricated at the lower end and the thrust bearing sleeve.

Ok thanks its with the mechanic at the moment should have it back Friday.

That was exactly what was happening. Mechanic explained and showed me the shaft that you were talking about :thumbsup:
