Wheel bearings

Just booked in to have my wheel bearings changed, terrible roaring noise from the front offside. The cars only done less than 50000 and according to Haynes these bearings should last the life of the motor. is this a sign of things to come ? I wonder. Anybody had the same experience? Confusedcratch:

I had to have a front one replaced at about 70k, can't recall which side. Other one is still OK.

I've told them to replace both sides, just to balance it up like.

I had to have a wheel bearing replaced on the front nearside 2 months ago. The seal had failed and water had got in and ruined it. Bearing had done 65k.
Are we there yet????? No we fecking ain`t  gggggrrrrrrr

I think that may have been my problem, I hit some pretty horrific floods last winter.

Talos,I would replace both sides as well,they both do the same amount of work.You also have the peace of mind.:thumbsup:

Yep that's what I thought so I booked it in for that, I figure they might as well whilst its on the ramp and check the gaiters too.

UPDATE
Both bearings changed at a local garage (trusted) £175 inc vat, I was well pleased with that, I had expected to pay at least that for each wheel.

I don't subscribe to this theory, last vehicle I changed a wheel bearing on was my daughter's Corsa and the inside race was seized due to a failed seal. The other side was fine and has done another 50,000 miles now with no problem. It works for brake and suspension parts that need to be kept in balance.
So where does this bit go then ?

I always find here, nearside chassis items go first due to the rough shoulder.
