Weird Happenings with Comm 2000
#1
Hi All,

Berlingo M59, 2.0HDI Multispace Desire. 2004 plate.

First of all, it's had cruise fitted. It's enabled in the BSI, it mostly works. Radio stalk works ok.

The airbag is not working. Lexia gives the error message pictured.

The horn does not work.

Both were working in the past. The airbag light started coming on occasionally, then eventually permanently. The horn worked intermittently, now doesn't.

Now, when the sidelights are switched on, the horn comes on constantly. If I am using cruise and use the wipers or indicators, cruise cancels.

There's obviously something "wrong" with the comms 2000 or the connections in it, or whatever. Lexia reports no faults though.

Is it simply a case where I'm going to have to replace the Comms unit? I don't mind, if this is the case...

In the picture inside the wheel, can anyone tell me what the green plug is for? It just clips to the side of the airbag, and doesn't actually connect to anything...

thanks all!

Mike

Could it be for a model that had buttons on the steering wheel?

Sounds like there is a problem with the Comms; some are fixable but others not. I take the attitude that most of the design faults have been removed in revised production, this is a win when you choose to install a new unit.

check that the steering wheel earth is ok. Bad earth connections can cause strange things .

Is there just the one earth to check - the stupid design "bent clip" in the middle of the steering wheel? I noticed it wobbles a lot. I'm tempted to drill a small hole and put a self-tapper in next to it to make the earth solid.

The earthing thing is a recognised shortcoming - I thought that had already been tried on yours. Definitely give it a crack.

Will do Addo. I need to get a workshop manual for this thing. Am I right in thinking that is the only earth for the wheel/comms?

Is the red that attaches to the airbag unit the live for the airbag igniter, or is that powered by the plastic ribbon from the Comms unit? I suspect it might just be for the horn, but I'm not sure. I need to get the meter on it tomorrow to see if it's live with the ignition on. If so, I might get somewhere.

I'd get the earth sorted as a matter of course as it will only bite you later on and you never know for ten minutes work you may have a good result.

The fact that the horn works only when the sidelights are on says 'poor earth'
to me. Why on earth (pun intended!) Citroen didn't secure that one earthing point
securely baffles me.....or why the didn't provide multiple earthing to a component
like the Comms2000. Yes! Use a self tapping screw with a shake-proof washer and a ring terminal.

Well, drilled a small hole in the wheel, removed the crappy clip-earth from the centre and screwed it in, but still no horn or airbag, so that wasn't the problem.

Unless of course there's another earth for this ridiculous layout I'm not aware of? I suppose my next step is to remove the wheel to get at the comm 2k and check the connectivity of every wire in the ribbon cables? Some of them look damaged, which, I believe, means a new Comm unit..

Check that the small 2 pin plug (blue) is correctly inserted in the airbag. Check that the 6pin grey connector is correctly inserted at the back of the comm2000 and like wise the the 2 pin blue connector. (airbag)
The main earth for the comm2000 is strangely enough behind the roof courtesy light so if your aerial seal is leaking it might have corroded.
If all thats ok then it could be that the ribbon or the the flexes are damaged. Confusedillyme:
