What do you do to earn money? For my sins I'm a Commercial Artist, I paint pictures for a living, usually abstract/comtemporary pieces depending on what the customer wants.

How long have I been doing it? Well as long as I can remember I've always wanted to draw/paint and the feeling has never gone away, sometimes it's so strong it's frustrating! Most of my work is commissioned based so I don't have a portfolio as such.

A bit of advice - make sure you have a good and safe pension - not one that seems too good to be true - it probably is.
We are both well and truly retired and now of course we have given up the earning but instead we are living from our savings and the pensions. After suffering ill health for the last 25 years and Jim being classed as unemployable for 20 of them we are now able to enjoy life more fully. Our current hobby is holidays. Spent a fortnight in Cyprus during February, off to Majorca for a fortnight in June, a week on a boat on the Danube in July and to top it all we have booked to take the Berlingo to Corsica for a fortnight in September - drive down to Toulon and then on the ferry to Ajaccio.
Retirement is wonderful but make sure you have the financial backing.

I'm retired now but when I was working in the US I made designer poisons for a living - research chemist for Ag chem companies. After moving to Europe 20 years ago I was an IT manager for a software company - lots of Unix experience from the time doing research. Yes, don't ignore the pension when you're young.

A varied career path since September 1973,
Left school at 16 with 4 "O" levels, crap grades!.

Served apprenticeship for a private company as a diesel fitter (firstyear off-the -job training was brilliant, taught me how to weld and fabricate, operate machine tools, basic electrical installation and theory, bench fitting etc). Redundant.

Worked for the NCB (latterly British Coal) as an earth moving and plant fitter. Redundant.

Part time lecturer in Motor Vehicle Technology (evenings) at local college for 4 years.

Worked for Local Authority as a Landfill Manager/ Household Waste Site Manager. Redundant.

Privatisation and redundancy meant various in-betweeny jobs including assemblng pottery making machinery, labouring in a local garden centre and assembling/packing cookers on a production line.

Last job was as a Technical Writer/Administrator at a local Commercial Vehicle dealership before being taken ill and being unable to work for the last 9 years due to illness.

Wow , where di I begin....for 30+ years I was in sales and marketing, company car , free fuel and travelled the depth and breadth of Britain. Some parts of Europe. Wonderful time seeing the country, think I have been almost every corner. Trained as a body masseur also during this period.
Then redundancy, [ one of many] so retrained as a plumber.Was going to start a plumbing buisiness in Wales but instead bought old properties and renovated. Great time untill market collapsed.
Now I`m vice chair for dissability skiing wales, teaching disabled people to ski, part time ski instructor ex samaritan and also run a small care company, employing 5 carers looking after a 91 yr old lady.
Have no pension, but have my Berlingo, by motorbike live in a large old farm house half way up a mountain, have a yacht, sit on canoes, canadian canoe, mountain bikes
and am reasonably healthy. Life is good.
But no pension....so Live on little financially. Biggest cost is insurance each year for the above,,,,,,but such fun.

Trained as a mechanic 4 years c&g..................made redundant..
Joined the Royal Navy as Marine engineer.... served 5 years
Now work with audio components for coaches and trucks....... is a lot cleaner than the last two!!

Pension.... can just afford the diesel at the mo......
