1.6 hdi alternator removal and refit
#1
Hi
The alternator on my m59 / 2007 with the 1.6 hdi is playing up. So I have to remove and replace it, -- it looks very tight there to work.
Who has done it and can run the procedure by me?
I would be very thankful.
Is there a design reason why they start failing after 60 tsd miles?

I did mine a while ago, it is indeed tight and a right fiddle but quite achievable by the home mechanic, the special tools like the belt tensioner aren't required - you can use general tools to work around. I'll attach the citroen procedure, although I seem to remember having to remove less than advised (throttle linkage I think). You need to take the plastic inner wing shield out to gain entry and drop the exhaust/turbo sheild, then it's all down to grazed knuckles and swearing!

Thanks for the good information. I have it all printed and will report back. Most likely, my neighbour who has small hands and who is with Peugeot will do the job for me. I will report back.

Just as a routine measure, I checked the new generator and -- the shaft is bent. So it has to go back to the EBAY shop. (hate the postage from Ireland--)
Meanwhile I fitted the deflector plate to the existing one in the hope, that it will work for another while.

Surely as the part is faulty under the distance selling rules the retailer has to pay you back the postage.
Are we there yet????? Huh

How did you get on? I've not looked at the PDF's above but the Haynes manual says you need to remove the power steering pump to get the alternator out, looks like it could be a pig of a job to do.
