Anti roll bar links changed
#1
Evening all.

Been doing a few jobs to the berlingo before this years French trip. Had the cam belt, water pump, thermostat and aux drive belt replaced at my local garage. I have replaced the radiator ( original starting to weep ), the rear engine mount bush and the anti roll bar links ( slight knock from front, now silent! ). Big Grin

The thing is, now on full lock the anti roll bar links just touch the brake hoses where they have a metal outer protector. Whilst the replacements are the right length, comparing them with the originals the offset is very slightly longer.

I'm fairly confident all is ok, but it just niggles me knowing that this is happening!Confusedcratch:

Would be interested if anyone else has come across this and would be good to hear any thoughts?

Many thanks.

Hi there. Changed my links on my 1.9 along with 2 springs and a wheel bearing 3 weeks, and i noticed on full lock that the top of the link just kisses the pipe as it hits its stop, its a mot failure really, as is the spring catchers clamped onto the front suspension catching the plastic inner wheel skin up in the turret...I ignored both but always check the brake pipe when servicing, dont worry about it, keep checking it, after all how many times are you on hard over lock. cheers

Interesting, changed the offside drop link the other month, and will be changing the other one this weekend, so will have a look at this and see.

I changed my drop links a couple of months ago, I'll be doing a service in the next couple of weeks so I'll check to see if mine's the same.

I checked mine today and they are they don't touch the brake pipe on full lock but there's not much of gap.

I almost forgot, I replaced the off-side drop link with a pattern replacement which looked to me like an exact copy, there didn't seem to be any contact with the brake line though.
Are you sure nothing else in the suspension is out of line/twisted?

On a side note, this is the second drop link I have changed on the same side in the last 6 months, bad luck? Or is another suspension component worn and contributing to the degradation??

I've been using ECP or GSF pattern parts for some time now and I have noticed a huge difference between their cheap drop links and their more expensive ones. I've had cheap links go within 10k miles, so I only use their good quality steering & suspension components now and have had no further issues.

Some Berlingos are apparantly fitted with plastic droplinks....no it's not a joke, I thought the bloke at the motor factors was winding me up when he asked me which mine had but they do exist!
