1.9d swap for 306 1.9td questions
#1
hi all, potentially got an off the road 306 coming my way (welding mot fail on the chassis)phase 1 with the 1.9td engine in it. looking at the idea of dropping it into my phase 2 berlingo and have a few questions

is it a straight swap?
what else needs to be swapped with it? (driveshafts, cooling, gearbox etc)
ive done engine swaps before but they have all been auto to manual mini conversions so how difficult is it realistically? im not a mechanic but im fairly good at it all, like i said i do mini conversions and alot of motorbike mechanics.

what other kinds of things that could improve performance or styling could be stripped from the 306? lights, seats etc? the odometer for the mileage?

any help would be great guys,

Your Berlingo is multiplexed, the 306 probably isn't. Going to be some fiddling required. Physically not hard to do; you will need an XU subframe and Xsara driveshafts as the 306 ones are about 10mm too wide each.

i had a feeling it wasnt as easy as people make out to drop the 306 engine in it

A Xsara II would probably be the best donor as it's already running a BSI.
