[Engine] DW8 Running Rough..

DW8 Running Rough..

Hi Guys,

Basically my mother has a 1.9D DW8 Multispace, 51 plate.
Its only done 98,000 but has been running rough for the past month.

It sounds like someone is hitting it with a hammer and it shakes quite abit when first started, which does smooth out, but the noise is still there.

I automatically thought fuel starvation, so I changed the fuel filter, and checked for air.. no issues.

Then I did some research and I thought it could be the advance solenoid, but when I unplug this, it actually gets worse, so therefore that must be working?

Now I have just found this video on youtube, and his problem was the injector with the wire coming out of it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYZalRLTzIg

So how do I go about checking if this injector is faulty? Or is it just a case of swapping it out for a known working one??

Also, is it possible to remove the EGR system and block it off completely, as I know on my old ford I could bolt plates on the manifold holes and do away with the complete lot.

Many thanks! Paul.

I would say the glow plugs with the rough running but you say after the thing settles down the noise is still there... hmm long distance diagnosis !

No plates needed for the EGR just remove and blank the vac lines.
Best to clean it all out as well, easy job.

Geoff.

EGR sounds easy then! Just part of me wants rid of all the gear along with it lol.

Hmm glowplugs wouldnt cause running issues once warm tho, and it starts on the button fine.

I will record my own video of it and share it.
must admit i am leaning towards an injector issue.

I unplugged the wired injector, and it ran worse, which might mean that isn't the issue. I wish this thing could be plugged in to tell me to save the faffing!

The rough running on my DW8 turned out to be the valve clearances needed adjusting. One cylinder wasn't closing the exhaust valve fully. Found by compression test.

The rough running improved hugely once the engine was warmed up, but gradually over time was taking longer and longer to clear. Was getting quite a bit of white smoke on start up.

Mine had done 80k miles at this point.

Cheers for the info!!

Just been for a tinker... Egr has been blocked off.

But the fuel plunger on the fuel filter housing when pumping, is this supposed to get near solid as the pressure rises?? I know this is the case on my ford. If not then there could be an issue here?...
