Well update for you all, gave everything a good spray with WD40 (other aerosols are available) & connected the battery up & the old girl is back in business! So I think I was correct with my assumption that she got really wet! Happy days though. Thanks for all the assistance and suggestions.

Any ideas as to what the culprit may have been & if there is anything i can do to prevent it happening again in the future?

You need to check the front scuttle where the wiper motor is that the drain holes that let the water run down to the bottom of the wing aint blocked. If they are water tends to build up then find its way into the car and onto the fuse box/bsi unit. Also check your windscreen is sealed properly as this is another way in.

Took the scuttle off and underneath it on the drivers side was full of crud. Cleared that out and tried to check the drain off in the inner wing but both sides had been siliconed on. Freed them off and both were also full of crud.Fingers crossed now that they are both cleared the problem should be sorted.

Thats a good start on mine I used a wooden kebab stick to get into the bottom of the wing and clear all the crap out and with a bit of water it will wash out the rubbish, and being wood it didnt scratch the paint although I wouldnt recommend eating a lot of kebabs just to get the sticks.

I've had a blocked scuttle drain on my M49, and it resulted in the passenger side underlay being soaked through and - due to the carpet material - not drying.
As to the kebabs - I rate tofu kebabs. Good tucker.

Got in it today after finishing a job, dash flashing like a Xmas tree again wouldn't start. Tried bsi reset twice but nothing. Phoned for breakdown and was facing a 2-3hr wait. After an hour I tried again and got it started, drove home with it doing all sorts of weird things on thedash but after about 10min it cleared up and all worked fine again. I'm confused? !

How can I check if the windscreen is sealed?
High pressure hose around the outside edge?
