Leisure Battery - How do I get a cable from the engine bay to the seats?
#1
I'm popping a leisure battery into my van as I stay over night in it a fair bit now.

My leisure battery is in the engine bay and is connected to the crank via a split relay. My major problem is getting a cable from the engine bay to the passenger area. Can't find a way through!

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance!

Not familiar with the Berlingo but have done this on many vehicles and
either used existing bullkhead grommets where possible or drilled a hole
(after checking both sides!) where I want it run, ie driver or passenger side,
then used a grommet or stuffing gland.
Often, removing parcel shelves or glove boxes and a bit of trim helps

The size of cable will depend on what current you need the supply for.
Its good practise to fit a protective fuse where you tap off from the leisure battery terminal
This main fuse is usually rated at the max cable current and a subsequent
distribution box with lower rated fuses is then used in the cabin if you want to run mutiple devices from here.
TV, stereo, phone charger, lights etc

Sound advice there.

You'll find a grommet on each side of the lower firewall/toeboards. On the driver's side the steering shaft passes through, on the passenger side it's the heater box drain tube. Probably the best one to pierce is the passenger side unit.

Just been looking at Addos stripped cabin pics
I reckon if anyone knows a good route for running extra cableing he does

I have just done this, there is a large grommet just under the brake servo, you can only really see it from under the dash!

Not checked drivers side for grommets yet, was hoping to stick to the passenger side but I'll check anyway.

Tried the heater box - it's tricky and I don't want to over heat any cables.

Might drill through on the passenger side and see how that goes. Smile

Currently it's a bodge job going outside the engine bay and back in through the passenger door, worked well as a temp solution for the weekend just gone.
