I have a 54 plate berlingo with a water damaged bsi, I have bought one from BBA reman for £260 and now my mechanic tells me it is faulty. It is being sent back for re testing. This unit took 3 weeks to obtain. I am now loosing the will to live as the van has been off the road for a month. Please can someone help a damsel in distress.

Nasty turn of luck there.

What kind of help are you looking for - another source of parts?

It has to be said that I would trust BBA Reman's judgement of what works.
It's their speciality and they do actually know these circuit boards well.
Perhaps your mechanic should attempt to open a dialogue with BBA to see what's what....

Interesting that you give them the thumbs up, I have found their service to be poor at best. £260 for a BSI sounds like a lot for a repaired unit, surely a new one would be better, and the time saved off the road would be well worth the extra expense.

I have heard only a few complaints over the years about their service and to be fair reconditioning
of used and faulty circuitry is fraught with uncertainty unless every discreet component and each soldered
joint is individually checked which of course would not be viable.
But I'm not in 'The Trade' and I'm perfectly sure that anyone who is will be able to be a far better
judge than myself.
Looks like I am going to have to 'stand corrected' on this. So apologies for the misleading info.
But I still think that now the money has been spent that some sort of dialogue may yield a more
positive result.

Agreed on that point!

I have two cars this week with BSI "issues" - both the result of expert interference - and they're doing my head in.

Thanks for the help and advice. I have not got any further forward. BSI has been sent back for rechecking and has come back with no faults, another week waiting, it seems the dash cannot communicate with the bsi and the pump also is locked out. I am at my wits end now and seriously doubting the mechanics ability. The latest is that he is going to ring BBA reman to go through the errors. Month off the road now.

There's a bloke in St-Leonards-on-Sea who may be useful, also another couple in the western regions of Sussex (one keen amateur, one "pro") should you need further points of contact.

If the time is a factor, swapping in an unlocked pump and donor clocks, BSI might be an option.

Sometimes you can transplant both the BSI and the pump ECU/immobiliser off a working vehicle that's being broken for parts.

As a "kit" it normally is sold with the donor ignition lock and key, as this forms part of the immobiliser, and the donor dash instruments as this avoids odd effects to the original recorded mileage. It almost goes without saying, the donor must be an identical engine and age.
