Bingo poor at first MOT pass rate

At the time, due to health reasons, I entrusted all servicing/MOT/repair work to a local indy Pug specialist. He did not test at his premises but took them to his mates premises up the road. Guaranteed they would find something wrong and sure that the two parties were colluding.....don't know why I went there as the place was as rough as ar*e-holes in any event. Moved on now to better facilities as I don't think he was up to the modern electronics and diagnostics etc..

Thats the reason I try to do all my own servicing and repairs if I can. Just dont trust garages as they will always try to tell you something is knackered and needs replacing/fixing. Brother in law was a mechanic years ago and he helped me out then but now I just do what I can and if stuck, I ask the mechanics at my work for advice. Garage I use for the MOT is quite good and have been using it for around 30 years off and on for tests since I had my first road legal bike. Had a few mates work there over the years and have been on good terms with the owner for many a year as a few members of the family have bought cars from them over the years. Not easy to find somewhere you can trust to do the job properly and without ripping you off.

Interesting thread. Wonder how many taxis fail their first MOT ?
Our Council have their own approved testing centre, but I understand they exceed MOT standards, AND for taxis certainly, require MOT test every six months, and from day one. This means a Taxi straight from dealer with only delivery mileage has to be tested before a "Plate" is issued !

My 04 Berlingo ( bought 2 1/2 years ago ) has passed last three MOT's with just one advisory - wiper rubbers just starting to split, and three services, again one advisory - disks pitted. Problems ? Only two, sliding door hold open catch to fix, heater fan control - fixed. Am I just lucky ??

Mine went through with 2 advisories for its first MOT in March. The 2 advisories were Rear o/s tyre 2mm, Rear N/s tyre 2mm. Cant blame the car for that. Mine is a March 2010 mk3.

Wink
I had mine in for MOT 0745 the morning after this item was on Watchdog.

The Service manager, takes my keys, a sharp intake of breath and says - "ooooh, Berlingo first MOT. Shall I print out the fail certificate now?" The woman behind me wasn't impressed with him. I know the service manager and he knows my Van was well prepared for the MOT but he couldn't help but have a little dig.

Passed, no advisories.

Mine passed last 3 Taxi Tests no problem, as you say they need tested even when new.

I have this mental picture that one component of the "Taxi Test" involves someone opening a rear door from outside, leaning in and vomiting on the seat/carpet.
