Please hurry DVLA!
#1
Just waiting for my private plate to be changed over so I can pick up Berlingo#2, I'm at the mercy of the DVLA to get it sorted as soon as possible, we go away on the 3rd of June for 2 weeks, I really hope it's all done before we go, it will be a breeze using it for the airport run, no more trying to squeeze cases into a saloon car.

If we didn't have the private plate we could have had the car last week! BAH! Big Grin

Still got half a tank of petrol to use in the Jag, a quick trip to town and back should take care of most of that Tongue

The DVLA don't know the meaning of the word 'hurry'. Quoting 4-6 weeks to return a V5 after change of owner, what's that all about? I'm off on holiday soon too & need it to get a number plate for the folding camper.

Get a self adhesive one and the self adhesive digits from your local motor factor. I always do this for any trailer etc.

No longer legal I'm afraid, matey.

Must have your driving licence and log sheet for submision to number plate manufacturers. Not being arsey or anything, just stating a law that has been in force for quite sometime now.

Yes, I knew it changed a while ago and was "advised" to do this by the said motor factor (who is a registered supplier of proper plates).

Not saying it's the best route to take, but if it gets someone off on their Holliers then it's worth it.

I've done more miles than I care to remember towing various things, all with these not legal plates on and never had a problem yet - perhaps I've been lucky - but would never encourage anyone else to break the law !!

Same here in the past, used the old background and removed sticky numbers cleaned up and fitted new ones.
Didn't realise you could still get the adhesive backgrounds, numbers and letters but like you say if it gets you out of the brown'n'sticky stuff then as long as the old bill stay off y'r case :whistle:

Ebay number plate sellers will supply you a legal font numberplate with no documentation. The loophole is that they supply non road legal 'showplates' but in legal font. They don't carry the marking of a legally supplied numberplate but close examination is required to spot this. I have used http://www.motoshowplates.com/ for trailer plates, nice plates delivered in 2 days.

Did the number plate change thing when I bought my Berlingo.
Daren't even think what a dealer would charge, he would probably sub-contract it out anyhow.
Dearest place I found was Halfrauds c.£15.00 per plate, a local small motor factor wanted £8.00 per plate. In the event I spoke to a former colleague who put me in touch with a local firm that mends radiators etc. £8.00 for a PAIR so well happy.
