Fuel system problem?

Hi bros,

I have a 2000 Berlingo (330,000km+ mileage) which I think is having some issues with the fuel system/pump/injector. The problem facing now is inconsistent power during acceleration - stepped on the pedal and not much speed is gained, then sudden surge of power followed by a high pitched noise (like nails scraping across an old fashioned chalkboard). Once I let go of the accelerator, the noise stops (it happens during certain rpm and at every gear). Another symptom is the engine stalls when climbing slopes. Feels like getting insufficient fuel. On idle, the engine runs normal and starts with no hiccups.

This problem happened a week ago after changing the fuel filter (the 'filter' inside, not the whole thing). Before that it had zero problems.

Anyway had it checked at a local mechanic and he could not figured out the problem. He suspect timing belt but it was still good after checking. Maintain the van well and always change wear and tear parts when they fail.

This time it looks like the fuel pump/injector/filter giving way but just want to seeking advice from the gurus or experienced drivers here before proceeding with the repair. Thanks

Before condemning the fuel pump try taking off the fan/auxiliary belt and see if you still have the noise, the sluggishness may not be connected to the noise. While you have it off check that the bottom pulley is OK as the rubber insert sometimes gives up. See that the power steering pump/alternator bearings are sound and trun freely.

Is the fuel filter seal ok and not drawing air, Seems that as it was running ok its something you've done/not done when changing the filterConfusedcratch:

Thanks bro turns out the fuel filter was clogged causing insufficient fuel flow. Explains the high pitch noise (difficulties for fuel pump to deliver fuel or drawing air)

Replaced a new filter and it runs like new now without any unusual sound
