Model year 2009 to 2014 differences

Hi,

I've had a number of berlingos down the years and am currently upgrading.
I'm looking for fellow berlingo owners opinions

Basically, I bought a brand new 90bhp in 2010 and always found the engine rough, the belt noisey and it was smokey.

In 2011, I bought a used 2009 with 60k miles to join it. It's the same as the 2010.

In early 2013, I bought a 75bhp brand new, but what a different van - better handling, much quieter, no belt noise, it's a facelift so better looking but slightly harder on diesel.

Can anyone please tell me about the engine difference? Is it due to the year of manufacture or is is due to the earlier vans being 90bhp? I've just placed an order for 2014 75bhp vans and still have time to change to 90 but am reluctant as the 75 is such a sweeter engine.

90 & 75bhp Mk3s before 2011 did not have dpf so they will smoke. I think you will find current 1.6diesel has had a lot of development in the last few yrs so both 75 & 90 should be better. Can you not test drive & new 90 & see for yourself?

if I`m correct the dpf means you have to travel 60 or so miles a week at motorway speeds to clear out s**t in the system otherwise it builds up and you have problems. The earlier models without this didn't have this problem, which is why when I bought my 90hp vtr in 2010 I chose it as at that point I was only doing short journeys up and down my hill. Now my journeys have changed a 110 xtr may be better, but that's why I am considering a tunit box to give me that extra woomph. and mpg.

is this correct?, ive got a 2009 75 and have been told it has a dpf, not noticed any smoke from it or for that matter the many mk3s I see about.
quick tip on belt noise after changing belt/tensioners and still having a noise, athletes foot powder keeps it nice and quiet

Concerning the DPF, I thought that just as long as you travel at over 40mph for at least ten minutes, this is enough to keep it clean

Yes, I've never had any probs with mine but diesels with dpf are said to be unsuitable if car is used only in town within a 30mph limit which would be very few cars, I would think. Development is continous though & I would think the problem will be overcome enventually.

I could see the DPF being an issue if it was used as a 'town' taxi or as a second car for the wife to pop in to town every now and then, but even then, if once week it was taken above 40 mph for over 10 minutes that should sort it out
