Main beam warning light MOT fail
#1
My 2000 W reg van failed its MOT today and one of the points was that the blue main beam warning light on the dash doesn't work!

Is this likely to be just a bulb or something more sinister?

Start simple & check/replace bulb first.Confusedalut:

That was my first line of attack, but does it really mean taking the bezel out??

I'm not sure about the mk1.Does the top not come off the binnacle?

No. It's not a Lotus Elan. You do have to remove the bezel.

If it was a Lotus Elan,I wouldn't be able to get in to repair it.Confusedalut:

On non-ac models, you start by removing the 'triangular' vent area in the dash.
(Pull out the Box underneath, stick Your fingers in and feel along the corner furthest away from the binnacle to find the hook holding it in Place)

You will also need to remove the cover around the steering column to remove a couple of the screws holding everything in Place, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the advice - i got the instrument cluster out without any issues whatsoever only to discover that there are in fact 8 (yup 8) bulbs missing! That'll be the reason the main beam one isn't working then eh?

I have been to the main dealer and they want almost £4 each for them - anyone have any idea's where I may find them somewhat less expensive?

just because there are 8 holes there doesn't mean 8 bulbs are needed. Those extra spaces are there for the likes of ABS airbag, stuff your van may not have. Save yourself a few £ and get down to your local motorfactor with old bulb in hand and get 1 the same.
