Auxiliary belt chirp
#1
Hi, first post as a newbie so forgive me if this question has been asked before.
Whilst trying to diagnose auxiliary belt chirp I squirted water at the ribbed side of the belt. Eventually chirp went away and after some consideration I believe the water got into one of the pulleys. The belt had been replaced to try and resolve the problem in the first instance but chirp remained. AmConfusedtudy: now trying understand where the issue lies. Its a 1.6 HDI with air con, DV6ATED4 engine. Can anybody offer a little advice.

ive had exactly the same issue, changed aux belt and tensioners and it still did it, best thing ive found is athletes foot powder and dust the belt, stays quiet for a couple of months at a time, I kept being told they all do that noise but ive herd some that don't. I have read about dust causing the cambelt also to chirp

Thanks for the info, I was going to replace the auxiliary belt, idler and tensioner as a complete kit but if it's a waste of time and money there's no point. I'll try the talc trick and see if it works.... many thanks.
I have heard that the chirp could be a symptom of a poorly aligned set of pulley's and the usual suspect is the AC. I have an open air garage and as it's not a problem right now I will leave it for better weather. It is annoying though.
