Battery goes flat after 2 or 3 days
#11
Thanks for all the suggestions. I have measured the current and it is 0.48 amps. I have tried pulling each fuse in turn from both the box inside and the one next to the battery, but none made much of a difference. I have also checked the rear light clusters as I thought they might be the source of a short but no change in the current. Is 0.48 normal or is it too high and enough to drain my battery over a weekend?

It's more than there should be; if it still leaks with all fuses pulled and key off, you have a faulty alternator.

OK is 0.1 to 0.2A.
Have you properly charged & tested the battery capacity?
Check drain alters when disconnecting Alternator before guessing Confusedillyme: its the cause Confusedcratch:

That was my suggestion in about the third post of this topic. Apart from being a pain to unscrew the terminals, it's a dead cert way to find out if the alternator is leaking current.

I've seen them form crude carbon resistors as oil leaks can "glue" carbon dust from the brush wear inside, bridging the two contacts.

Bought the magic charger from Lidls.Having read the guff it sounds a good idea.I did notice, however, that it won't charge a flat battery,so I'll keep the old one, also from Lidl,on the shelf. Thanks Obtech.

Pennies for what it does, everyone should buy one. You should find it far better than your old jobbie  The work around for flat batteries, is to link to another battery first so the charger kicks in and does its job.

Its been some time since I reported this problem and I am happy to say that it is now SOLVED. Yes it was the Alternator so well done to those above who made the suggestion. No more dis-connecting the battery every night!!
