Coolant renewal
#11
I didn't bother with the header tank in the end, I just followed the instructions given here.

Thanks to all for your replies.

I was speaking to an acquaintance of mine today. He owns his own tyre company and trained at college as a mechanic. I told him I serviced my own van and replaced the coolant but didn't use de-ionised water as recommended in the manual. He said, and I am quoting for truth here:

They take all the iron out of it so if you top it up, you have to use de-ironised water or it will go rusty.

I looked at him to see if he was joking... he wasn't.

I think your pal must have meant taking the " ions " out of the water.

You should have asked him to tell you what resistivity water you should be using for your engine.

You can get it from Citroën dealers, or possibly ask Mister-Auto (UK). There are Polish made reproductions offered to the French market at lower price than ones in an official bag (but probably from the same factory).
