Running your blingo out of fuel does not cause dirt from the bottom of the fuel tank to be sucked up into the fuel system, if there is a lot of water or dirt in your tank and it reaches the bottom of your stack pipe in the tank, it will pick up the pollutants regardless of whether its full, half full or empty, it does not have to be empty to do it. You have refuelled with incorrect fuel, any dirt will have been picked up by the filter, water on the other hand can get past the filter into the pump,.....you need to drain the tank and refill up to full to assist ease of bleeding, fit a new fuel filter, remove the filter to inj pump pipe then pump the hand primer till clean new fuel runs from the pipe, then reconnect the pipe, turn the ignition ON and pump fuel through the inj pump for a couple of minutes then start her up and take it for a run and hope it clears up
The injection pump is lubricated by the diesel fuel it pumps, wrong fuel....no lubrication....and using the incorrect fuel may have damaged the pump or caused the inj timing advance retard valve in the inj pump to jam, this causes (Loss of power, white smoke and a fast loud airy knocking rattle at all engine speeds)...the 1.9 is prone to it, mines has done it 12 times in 10 years of ownership and using cheaper grade diesel fuel instead of premium fuels seems to make matters worse, the incorrect fuel may have jammed it causing the inj timing to run out of sync, if the problem persists, with the engine running try tapping the inj pump lightly with a small hammer to see if the valve frees off.
