STARTING MOTOR
#1
Hi everyone , can anyone tell me if its possible to change a starting motor without disconecting the battery as i loose my code on the key because i dont have an original key or the code number for my van. Today i have just paid the main dealer £107 to recode my non-original key & van together but they would'nt give me the code so i still dont know what it is.

Yes it is possible to do but, highly not recommended due to when you take the main battery positive cable off it's still live. If you are going to do it be very very careful and wrap several rags around the end, so you don't short it out.

The car doesn't lose the immobiliser code when the battery's taken off.

Why is that,Addo? Is it embedded ? The reason I ask is that ,as a devout coward,I'm thinking of renewing my battery at some time.Don't I have to do a reset? It's a 1.6 HDi 2007.I always bow to your superior knowledge & esteem.:thumbsup::whistle: PS why is there no emoticon for creeping?

The immobiliser code is stored in the BSI or under-dash box of suspenseful tricks. So long as there is power to the control hub on the steering column, it can "read" the key's data chip and compare this with the stored information. A match means it starts.

If this code were lost soon as a battery comes off, there'd be chaos everywhere.
