What they are selling is convenience, and something that you know will fit first time and work, because they've made them before.
I agree that if you are handy (or know someone who is handy) you could knock up something similar. But if I was in the market for something like this (I'm afraid my camping days are behind me), I would certainly consider this. My time, faffing around with MDF, saws and screwdrivers, is worth more than what they want for this.
Note that it also comes with the cooker, which is 200 quid, plus the blackout screens, and it all (the platform, cushions, blackouts) looks to be finished nicely, which is not necessarily what I would get from my local handyman.
