Reasonably priced service/MoT
#1
Citroen UK website price of £149 incl. vat from my local Citroen garage for interim service/MoT at 5yrs/51k miles, no other work required. Ineo ecs used with Citroen filter. Dunno how much Halfords would have charged but I thought it was ok.

I don't bother with the interim service from Citroen as I do it myself for £20 for the Ineo ECS oil and £12 for a genuine filter, but as my XTR is under warranty, I have to take it to a dealer for the full service

Most of the checks that they do in an interim service can easily be done by anyone with a trolley jack

However, if you are not inclined or are not confident enough to do the work/checks yourself, then £115 for just the service or £149 for service and MOT is not too bad a price

I've always done my own servicing on my vehicles mainly because of two things
1. Cheaper
2. Distrust of garages

As the nearest Citroen dealer to me os over 20 miles away, i did inquire at the local Peugeot dealer for a cost for Partner Tepee full service cost and was quoted £395, which is £200 more than Citroen charge

Peugeot website now have same price service offers as Citroen, Ford dealers are now more competitive for servicing as well now, perhaps its a trend for main dealers to get back lost business. I suppose I have the best of both worlds with my local Citroen place because it has always been a small family firm rather than part of a big group but its hard to see how a non franchised workshop would be much cheaper without scimping on oil etc, & at least you know the drain procedure has been carried out.

Reading your message had me looking at the Citroen site. Mine goes in tomorrow for it's first service and I have been quoted £200 .. It is shown s £195 on the main site so I will be checking tomorrow. I have noted it says 36 months or older but surely a full service is a full service?

Thanks for the heads up.

The prices on the Citroen website are for cars 3yr old or more interim service/MoT £149 & £229 full service/MoT. Full service without MoT is £195. Full service is every 2yrs though so first service should be interim although I could be wrong. Ford are also doing reduced priced services for older Fords so I guess its to try to prevent owners going to independants once their cars are a few yrs old.

Well I had it done today and paid the £200. Must confess it seems smoother and quieter now but I have no idea why.

My citroen dealer quoted me £334 for 37.5k/3yr service. I asked why it was £229 on the website and they said it's because they use motoquip parts for that offer which are cheaper. No way there is a £100 parts saving on service items, there must be items not covered, but I didn't get an answer.

They don't use total ineo ecs and they didn't change the brake fluid on the 2yr service as is in the book, just tested it. Whether it needed it or not, surely it has to be done to the book while under warranty? So I'm not sure if I'll continue using them.

Jamesg,By not changing the brake fluid, the bleed nipples will not have been undone, which could lead to them rusting in.I remove my (bleed) nipples every 2 years & lightly coat the threads with Waxoyl.
As other members will attest, there is nothing worse than your nipples seizing.

It could well be up to the individual dealer how they intepret the offer but mine deffo uses ineo Ecs & Citroen filters. The website prices my garage quotes are the price they charge for the services, they do not offer a choice of a more expensive , non offer service. If you check Citroen website the work done on both interim & full service offer is as per schedule. I guess the 2 yr brake fluid change is chargeable extra, anyway but it includes filters as required. I can't see why they would not use Citroen oe filters, the price the dealer pays for these can't any more than oem of similar quality.

On their fixed price repairs they give a choice of using Citroen parts or cheaper 'approved parts' which presumably are oem so just as good, I would have thought.

Yes, very true. Have read some places just suck out from the reservoir and replace that which is cutting corners too far. I have a pressure bleeding kit so might do it myself when the weather warms up.
