Hi
new boy here. done a search found nowt relevant.my clutch needs replacing release bearing is screaming.i am capable of doing myself but has to be outside my house.so i phoned mr clutch,£360 and you may need this or this and maybe one of these so could be a futher £110.spoke to a local clutch specialist who quoted 6 to 8 hours work thats longer than my td5 clutch took to do.quoted £426 + other may need parts plus vat.oh and you will need a new waterpump at the same time. wtf is he on about.so anyone a rough idea how long it should take and some tips in diy,ing the job.have bought clutch kit and Clutch Input Shaft Sleeve Guide Bush/seal.all help and advice appreciated.

On at least some Mk. I's you need to pull the engine completely to get to the durn thing...

That means jacking it up, removing the wheels, the axles, disconnecting a cr@pload of hoses and wires, exhaust downtube, maybe inlet manifold(it's too easy to damage something on it, at least on the 1.4i) purging the coolant, removing the battery and battery box, the bonnet...

It's kind of a very uncomfortable sensation in the seating arraignment...

As it's a 'fairly involved' operation, it may make sense to do a few other jobs at the same time.
But the waterpump shouldn't be on that list, really.
