Catalitic cleaning
I was told that every so often it is good to blast up the motorway to clear the rubbish soot in the catalytic converter. I never had to do this in my Ford Connect.
If this is so how often should i do this.
If you have a diesel motor with a DPF then yes, a fast run periodically is required to burn off the collected particles.

If you only do slow speeds then yes on occasion a drive at between 40 - 50mph for about 1/4 hour will keep it clean. You will know if it needs doing as the warning light on the dash will light up. My mileage is just over 6000 in two years mainly at low speeds and I have never had the warning light on.

I think its fair to say that DV6 engines don't have the blocked dpf probs that you read about on other makes. Is it because the dpf has the Eolys(what is it?)fluid injected in to help the process? As said over 40mph for a few miles on an open road is all that is needed.
I was told to stay in third gear at 3000 rpm for about a mile at least once a week and this will clear the dpf. Have noticed after, the mpg increases slightly from 49 to 52mpg
