front suspension spring

I was very lucky today got in the berlingo on the drive reversed up the drive heard a kind of wurring sound steering a bit strange, got out seen some rubber stringy pieces on road, drove car back on drive took a look the front suspension spring had snapped gone straight into tyre big gouge in brand new tyre gutted, had to hack saw the end piece off for some clearance ok to take to garage monday, how lucky was i, 2004 hdi 2.0ltr berlingo anyone had same experience.

This was a common fault and was covered by a recall from Citroen who fitted 'cups' at the bottom of the springs, sounds like yours was not done Sad

It was either the cold climate or road salt that predicated such failures. Number of busted springs here across all marques is negligible.

I clean the springs & seats every year & coat with Waxoyl.Never had a busted spring(so far).Confusedalut:
Strawberry flavoured windows  Dodgy

In 9 years I never had any problem with mine either.

I should have said that all the 'cups' did was to stop the broken spring from digging into the front tyre.

Hi thanks all for your inputs, garage cant do it until thursday, as i have said end of spring is close to tyre right now, is it safe to drive like this even if i get an angle grinder and cut a bit more off the spring for more clearance, have been onto citroen no chance of free cups or springs regarding recall, lol.

Really the answer is no it is not safe to drive if something snaps or moves further you (and others) could be in all sorts of danger.
Have you tried calling Citroen HQ to see if they will help you with the 'cups'?

Had spring fail on my 2003 MSpace last year. http://www.berlingoforum.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=5326.
They normally go at standstill or very low speeds, for some reason. Make sure you don't get KYB (Kayaba) springs.
