low oil pressure warning light

The 'low oil pressure' warning light came on in my citroen 1.6hdi this morning after travelling a mile. I turned and came home and as I drew into the drive the 'Stop warning' flashed. My husband started the car again a couple minutes later while the engine was still hot and there was no warning lights showing. He has listened to the engine ticking over and doesn't hear any abnormal knocks or taps.
It is a 2006 model. Any suggestions before he starts considering worn bearings etc.

Start simple & change the cheapest part 1st,the oil press switch.If there is no improvement,have the pressure checked by a garage you trust.Unless it's done intergalactic miles,bad maintenance is the biggest cause of failure.Good luck & let us know how you get on.Confusedalut::thumbsup:

Hello caleua welcome to the forum as ron said the prime suspect is oil pressure switch one other thing have you checked the oil level on the dipstick ??Rolleyes

Thanks ron and jed we have ordered a oil pressure switch tonight on your suggestions and yes he had checked oil level on dipstick -- if anything he said it was a wee bit high
Will let you know how we get on with the oil press switch.
Any other suggestions welcome

Had this on a C4 Picasso 1.6 HDI about 2 weeks ago. We took the sump off, and this is what the oil pick up looked like in the sump

After about 20 mins of cleansing

I washed all the debris into a cardboard box, and this was what came out

No issues with oil pressure since.
I would say that on this vehicle , the turbo failed several weeks previous to this, but the sump & pick up we're not cleaned.

67000 miles and a full dealer history actually, I reckon it was caused by a very blocked dpf and the downer just carrying on driving the car regardless of warning lights.

I see he got what he deserved then just one Q as i don't know did it not go into limp mode

As a retired mechanic,Lightys' post does not surprise me.Some owners ignore your advice,thinking you're after more money,then come back with a blown engine,badly scored flywheel(in clutch cases),& varying degrees of "misfortune".I fiound it very hard to be sympathetic. It's a lovely job,spoilt by a few customers.:brickwall:
