EGR Clean?
#1
EML came on today, AA man came out and told me it is due to the EGR being clogged, he suggested a good clean of the EGR should rectify the issues.
Can anyone advise how to do this, or does it involve adding an additive for example?
1.6 HDi 90.
This is the third time for same code, it seems to fix itself, but only throws up the issue when I fill the tank with diesel. Within 100-150 miles the light normally turns itself off.

Thanks in advance

Do you ever take it for a good long drive on a Motor way you may get away with out cleaning it needs a good work out ? it's a pig of a job to do if your not good with a spanners get some one to do it for you then you can get it deleted or put a egr blanking plate in if you put the blanking plate in the egr must be working or you will get EML light

Nope, living in Cornwall we don't have motorways, and very little dual carriageways neither for a good drive! I need to drive to Cardiff in a fortnight so that might be what it wants.

How many miles has your vehicle done ? I know DPF Additive level requires checked /topped-up @ 80,000 miles-dunno if that is relevant.

There is No DPF I understood on the 90bhp engine? It's on 57k.

Regarding it being an intermittent fault only occurring when I have a full tank of diesel, could it relate to the diesel fuel filter? I've seen on the C4 forum suggestions that a dirty diesel filter can throw up the egr? The diesel filter I understand to be due at the 60k service so may run in line with the mileage and needing changing?

Mine isn't the e-hdi. It's a 2010 VTR.
When I bought it the dealer assured me it didn't have a DPF, I do about 20k a year, but very little on dual carriageways and motorways, so a DPF fitted car would be unsuitable.

Update, this morning it let out a massive cloud of sooty smoke, and then next time I started the car the warning light has gone out, which seems to support the AA man's opinion it needs a clean.

I would have thought 20,000m PA would involve enough longish distance to clean a DPF if you had one.The previous owner may well have been a "diesel creeper" keeping speed down to save fuel.See how it goes,I don't think you will fog up Kernow again.:whistle:

With DPF Mk3 Berlingos you do need to check/top up additive level at 80k.
