List of french reliability that failed you during ownership
#11
@ cocoSmile good point about other people's attitude to French cars

@ kokain - does that adhesive work like contact adhesive? There's a lot of tension in the area of rubber that's come away on my seal.

I'm not sure what you mean but its pretty strong once it cures. it sticks to anything and it applies like silicone with the same kind of gun. Just isn't as good as people brag about it for solid engine mounts. You wont find that stuff for sale in Halfords but paint shops do have it. It's often known as Final System or you can go on Ebay and buy the popular Tiger Seal

I've owned a 205, 3 x 306's, a 406 Coupe and obviously the Partner..all of them have been very faithfull and fun workhorses/weekend toys despite the 'french crap' rep. Must admit they do tend to eat suspention components but I think thats more a combo of the state of the roads and the fact I like to lower them. The vans only let me down once in 50k (Clutch went)

It'd be a toss up between old Vauxhall Vectra GSI or Range Rover P38 for most unreliable lol

MK1 van owned for 8 years, I've done well over 100k in it. Speedo is showing 141k but it stopped working properly three years ago.....

Aside from service items (brakes, exhaust, drop links etc) I've replaced, crank pulley, front springs, heater motor, wiper motor, glow plug and one ball joint.

The rear brakes were replaced only last year, looking at the shoes it was the first time in the vans life.

It's never failed to start and never broken down, ever.

Oil is changed every 6k and contrary to popular belief, you don't need to replace the sump washer as mine is still the original

French crap? Hardly Confusedalut:

I'm probably courting disaster by stating it but it's almost 3 years since we bought our 56 plate 1.6hdi. Everything worked when we bought it and I can't think of anything that has failed off the top. As a "bus pass holder" I don't have money or inclination to spend in pampering it, though I do practice 'intelligent neglect' and do all the basic checks. It's been serviced by the same dealer who supplied it new. I'm half expecting new pads and maybe discs at the next service so I might have a look on the forum to gauge whether it's an out of practice ol' git.

- Steering rack orange bag caused some judder during cornering. What a ghetto job by Citroen to think this is good idea than a rubber boot like normal cars.
- Finally got to the passenger shower problem, it turned out the hose slipped out of the jet nipple due to poor design.
- Broke every single clip out of the tail gate when removing. Very happy with that turn of events.
- Berlingo started to lightened itself by loosing sound deadening. Found a whole solid piece in my drivers door. It seems to have unglued itself. Not as worst as the tail gate where it's gone brittle and now the pieces are making noise around every corner. I need to hoover them up.

- Rear window is now vibrating even thought the screw is tight to the max. I need to make a rubber spacer.

I'm sure there will be more to come.

I forgot to mention the 22 year old alternator that decided it "deserved" new brushes after only 290000km.
